Pavan 'the first one Philips made'; Galliardo; Margott Laborez; Yellow; Fancy; Tirsi; Brake; Così will die; Painful pavane; Painful Galliarda; Bon jour mon cueur; Fece da voi - This album constitutes the third volume of the comprehensive curated by Pieter-Jan Belder of the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book, the most famous, extensive and representative collection of keyboard works from Elizabethan and Jacobean England. Custodian in the Fitzwilliam Museum, Cambridge, the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book contains more than 300 virginal works by composers such as John Bull, William Byrd, Thomas Tomkins and many others. The program of this album is based on the works of Peter Philips and Jan Pieterszoon Sweelinck, the only non-English composer present on the Fitzwilliam Virginal Book. Philips and Sweelinck had the opportunity to meet in person and share their talent in variation form, transforming a very simple melody with increasingly elaborate ornaments and contrapuntal elements. Pieter-Jan Belder is considered one of the most authoritative harpsichordists in circulation, a fact confirmed by his extensive discography, which includes among other things the complete sonatas of Domenico Scarlatti, the harpsichord works of Johann Sebastian Bach and anthologies of works by Jean-Philippe Rameau, Father Antonio Soler, Jacques Duphly, Marin Marais, Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach, Arcangelo Corelli, Henry Purcell and Georg Philipp Telemann.Clavicembali by Gerhard Boogaard and Cornelis Bom
